Stanley Park Restoration

The Anfield Breckfield Regeneration Plan has always had the restoration of Stanley Park at its core as it provides a vital green lung for the area.

The £25million refurbishment began in Winter 2007, and will include

  • restoring the 110 listed park and buildings and structures including the bandstand next to the conservatory and the red sandstone pavilions;
  • dismantling the 'Monkey House' bandstand on the Priory Road side of the park, cleaning and repairing it and re-erecting the structure on the Walton Lane side of the park (opposite Everton FC);
  • dismantling the bowling green pavilion and re-erecting it next to the children's playground on the Walton Lane side of the park;
  • restoring the five bridges, including the stone structure running between the two existing lakes in the north-west corner of Stanley Park;
  • restoring the third lake;
  • new football pitches;
  • new play area (completed Winter 2007)
  • refurbishment of the Isla Gladstone Conservatory.

The restoration programme is aimed at increased bio-diversity and improving tree and landscape management and better water environment management.

Work will engage local people and use the resources of Liverpool City Council such as the Rangers and increased staffing of the park.

The restoration of Stanley Park is being carried out simultaneously with the construction of the new stadium. Long-term additional jobs will be created through the joint venture company formed between LFC and the city council on maintenance, management and security within the park.

The work will be paid for by a European grant and money from the government's Neighbourhood Renewal Fund.

Stanley Park was designed by Edward Kemp, the creator of Sefton and Birkenhead parks.
