Paradise Project (Site 1) - School Lane Shopping Arcade
Peter's Lane is to house a new arcade as part of the Paradise Project which will combine new shops with the retention of older buildings.
The arcade will be built on the eastern side of the Lane between School Lane and College Lane and will have a public space at each end.
It will not be a tall building as it will match the scale of the Bluecoat Chambers. The ground and first floor will form the retail elements of the arcade with the upper floors having loft space with the potential for a mezzanine.
This development will see the face of the Palatine Building retained with the building used for retail, 18 School Lane will be retained an incorporated into the scheme.
Although neither of these buildings are listed they make an interesting contribution to the street scene and are important to the history of the area.
It is anticipated that this scheme will be under way by the Summer of 2006 and completed in 2008.
