Paradise Project - Retail and Apartments- College Lane - Site 3, 3A and 3B
A new building which will incorporate a specialist lifestyle store while retaining existing listed warehouses will form an important element of the Paradise Project.
It will occupy a prominent position on the corner of College Lane and Hanover Street and is being designed to acknowledge both the scale of the adjacent Stanley Buildings and the massing on College Lane which will respect the single storey rear of the Bluecoat Chambers and the height and width of the two listed Merchant's Warehouses on College Lane, which are to be retained and re-used.
The site is extended to the west o with restauranf these warehouses to further enable sensitive treatments in this area. The architects' have responded to these issues and, in addition, have created a pedestrian link running from College Lane to Hanover Street, revealing the rear of the listed warehouses. This forms a continuation of a new public space.
The building itself will have listed warehouses on the ground floor. The western building will have shop and commercial activity.
The new build element in College Lane will be a specialist lifestyle store with a restaurant.
Construction work is expected to start in Spring 2006 and be completed in summer 2008.
