Stonebridge Business Park Access and Infrastructure

Stonebridge Business Park is a  major development in the north of the city by Liverpool Land Development Company which  will eventually create more  than 1,500 permanent jobs and over 33,000 square metres  of floorspace for business.

Access and infrastructure works to service the Park, comprising a new road junction together with associated internal access/circulation roads, footpaths and other associated engineering operations, starts in July 2005.  The Main Access and eastern section (GEC site) is scheduled for completion by December 2006 and the Western section (Sugarbrook Site) will be built between January 2007 to March 2008

The main elements of the scheme are:

  • a new junction with the A580 to serve the GEC site. The junction will initially be built in a "T" arrangement linking to a roundabout accessing the main GEC Site spine road. The junction will eventually serve the Stonebridge Cross mixed retail and residential scheme currently being progressed by LLDC along with its preferred developers Tesco and David McLean. The second phase of junction works will depend on planning consent being secured and is to be delivered by the preferred developers;
  • construction of a roundabout linked to the new junction to provide access to the GEC and Sugarbrook parts of the Business Park;
  • the main GEC site spine road to provide access to a range of serviced development plots;
  • a linear park along the A580 frontage built along new watercourses incorporating cycle paths and footpaths, complementing similar initiatives on the Sugarbrook section and within the Stonebridge Cross Site;.
  • construction of a new junction with Lower Lane to access the Sugarbrook part of the site;
  • construction of a landscaped spine road through the Sugarbrook site which will access the serviced development plots along its length;
  • continuation of the A580 frontage linear park in a complementary manner to the GEC section of the linear park;
  • realignment of the Sugarbrook;
  • construction of a mounded buffer screen incorporating extensive evergreen tree planting to the boundary

Overall the project will provide the infrastructure to establish a high profile Business Park  with serviced development plots set in a high quality parkland environment incorporating lakes and watercourses associated with the River Alt and its Sugarbrook tributary, both of which bisect the site.

When completed the project will have refurbished 29 hectares of land, opening up 15.12 hectares of land for development, provided 1.8km of new highway and 1.6km of upgraded highway corridor, and delivered a new 2.74 hectare park.
