Paradise Project (Site 11) - Canning Place Hotel and Apartments

Early computer model of the Canning Place developmentA tall building which will form part of a framed entrance to Chavasse Park is planned on the corner of Strand Street and Canning Place.

The 10 storey hotel building forms part of the elliptical composition of the Park and the southern half of a framed entrance to the Park from the west.

It will have spectacular views in all directions, but particularly to the west and north.  The building will offer weather protection on three sides, including a colonnade to the south, opposite the new Canning Place bus station.

To the northern part of the development there will be apartments at the upper levels with leisure uses.

This will be a modern building with a reflective and transparent skin.  The reflectivity will be achieved using a variety of materials - ceramic tiles or glass.  It will complement the residential building to the north, being part of a pair of gateway buildings.

Work is scheduled to start in summer 2006.
