Aintree Industrial Estate Phase 2
Aintree Industrial Estate is home to more than 100 businesses including a number of nationally-recognised companies such as Jacobs and local employers such as Trigon Snacks and North West Aerosols.
As such it is an important estate but it is ageing and is now undergoing a programme of environmental, highway and signage improvements managed by the Liverpool Land Development Company.
The key objectives of the project and their completion dates are:
- to upgrade 2.11km of key routes win, or leading to, the Industrial Estate (April 2005);
- to assist the remediation of 2.88 hectares of Brownfield land (July 2005);
- to improve up to 30 premises fronting onto the key routes within the Industrial Estate (May 2005);
- to facilitate and support the construction of approximately 15,000m² of new development (2006);
- to facilitate and support the reclamation of approximately 3.6 hectares of derelict land along the corridor (2006).
The first phase involved £2m worth of environment and infrastructure improvements. The works were identified by consultants preparing the NWDA sponsored Implementation Framework. They included the re-engineering of Brookfield Drive to create an attractive and efficient industrial distribution road; improvements to boundaries and curtilage areas to business premises along the corridor; physical enhancements and traffic management measures along Hanson Road (which links Brookfield Drive to Long Lane), and a wider programme of gateway signage and features.
The works also include significant enhancements to the Lower Lane corridor which will play a key role as the main approach route to the Industrial Estate from the A580 and the wider trunk road network. The substantial engineering work are scheduled for completion in August 2006.
The second phase involves £1.6m worth of work and is due to start in October 2006 with a completion date of March 2007. It includes the improvement of Long Lane to create an attractive and efficient primary spine road; improvements to boundaries and curtilage areas to business premises along the corridor and physical enhancements and traffic management measures along Charnock Road.
