Seymour Street & Copperas Hill - CCMS Project

Seymour Street photographed at the end of the works in December 2006This £1.5m scheme created two-way traffic along Copperas Hill and Seymour Street and remove St Vincent Way as a highway. It simplifies the junction of London Road with Seymour Street allowing Merseytram Line 1 to go along London Road. It will also enable development of the site of the former Swan Public House.

The main project aims are:

  • creation of two-way traffic along the full length of Copperas Hill;
  • removal of the gyratory system around Seymour Street and St Vincent Way to simplify the junction at London Road;
  • the widening of Seymour Street to allow two-way traffic;
  • the closure of St Vincent Way as a highway;
  • landscaping of St Vincent Way;
  • the closure of St Vincent Street at its junction with London Road leaving it closed to through traffic and acting as a servicing street;
  • realignment of upper Lord Nelson Street to run parallel with Lord Nelson Street;
  • new pedestrian crossings over Seymour Street and Russell St to improve road safety;
  • re-shaping of the landscaped area opposite Seymour Terrace to accommodate the works including new tree planting.

The project was constructed in five phases between April and winter 2006.
