Renshaw Street & Berry Street - CCMS project

The junction of Renshaw Street and Brownlow Hill, Liverpool City CentreThis £4million scheme, which forms part of the City Centre Movement Strategy, was sponsored by the Department for Transport.

It was designed to put greater emphasis on pedestrian movement and safety through wider footways and improved pedestrian crossings.

All existing footways and carriageways were repaved, and a new flush central reservation created along the full length of Berry Street to provide safer pedestrian crossing. New street lighting and signage were also installed.

Improvements to the Adelphi Bus interchange were provided in partnership with Merseytravel. This also resulted in wider footways, safer crossings and new bus stops in and around the Adelphi Interchange area.

The project also provided open spaces at Brownlow Place and Upper Duke Place using high quality surfacing, street furniture, tree planting and lighting to create an attractive environment.

The works were carried out in 2005.
