New Speke District Centre

A new £36 million retail centre for Speke, anchored by a Morrisons superstore with four further retail warehouse units, shops, and new bus terminal opened in July 2007 at the heart of the Speke community.  Eventually creating up to 450 jobs, it includes a 728-space car park together with a petrol station and car wash.

Most of the shop units have already been taken with new arrival Domino's Pizza joining existing well-known names including Rowlands Chemist, Sayers, Card Warehouse, William Hill, opticians Martin and Kaye and Riverside Credit Union.  Iceland will be taking up one of the larger retail units.

A Speke landmark will also be moved to the new centre.  The Coronation Column, which stands in the existing shopping centre, will be relocated to take pride of place in the new development.

A new access road into the district centre has also been built from a new junction off Speke Boulevard, whilst a new bus terminus was also constructed near the entrance.

The new District Centre is now providing the local amenities needed to serve the Speke estate and the area's burgeoning workforce. It has been designed to integrate with the adjacent Parklands Complex which includes a school, community centre, library and Liverpool City Council One Stop Shop. There is also potential within the development for a new health centre.

The existing, largely-derelict, shopping centre will be demolished to make way for additional sports pitches for Parklands High School.
