JMU - Centre of Excellence for Sport Exercise Science
Liverpool John Moores University was awarded around £4.5 million in recognition of its teaching excellence in the fields of PE, Dance, Sport and Exercise Sciences.
The award by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) enabled JMU to create a new Centre of Excellence in Teaching and Learning, or CETL, which is further developing innovative approaches and enhanceing students' vocational, leadership and entrepreneurial skills.
Works associated with the initial phases of the CETL programme included the development of a new:
- 600,000 link building at IM Marsh
- a £1million plus fitness suite and refurbishment programme at 62-70 Great Crosshall Street
IM Marsh Link Building
A new link building was developed between the existing Greenbank Langdon Building and swimming pool at IM Marsh. The £600,000 project now provides:- a new reception area
- flat level disabled access to both buildings
- a new IT suite
62-70 Great Crosshall Street
The £1.2 million Great Crosshall Street development involveed the development of:
- a new health and fitness suite for staff and students
- cafe and seating area
- changing facilities and showers
Office facilities located in 70 Great Crosshall Street currently used by the Faculty of Health and Applied Social Sciences were also be refurbished.
