Eden Square
This £60m development by Downing Developments is on the site of the former Fire Station Site a Gales Building. It forms the first phase of a larger development known as the Garden Quarter. Situated between Hatton Garden, Dale Street and Tithebarn Street it comprises luxury apartments, retail and office space.
The first phase of the Eden Square development, completed in early 2008, consists of two midi towers - Hatton Tower (10 storeys) and Cheapside Tower (12 storeys high).
The 10-storey tear-drop building has 63 self contained apartments on the upper floors with mixed-use ground floor and mezzanine areas. The teardrop shaped footprint of this building is enveloped in glass to maximise light.
The 12-storey stepped building has a similar combination of commercial ground floor use with 60 residential apartments. The stepped nature of the building introduces a distinctive addition to the city's skyline. They will be separated by landscaped public areas, timber boardwalks, planting, stainless steel lighting and seating.
Eden Square is contributing to the exciting regeneration and redevelopment works in Liverpool City Centre combining modern architecture with the grand buildings on the edge of the World Heritage Site.
When completed in early 2008 this area will offer high quality new public open space, commercial and retail opportunities.
There will also be the excavation of four storeys of basement for the provision of 136 underground car parking spaces.
