Church Street - Parker Street

Images of the proposed works in Church StreetLiverpool's main shopping area is being upgraded and updated City Centre to make it a more attractive place to work and shop in with  a £5.5m development.

The main aim of the scheme is to improve the pedestrian areas in Church Street, Lord Street and Parker Street with new high quality granite paving, new street lighting, new street furniture (benches and litter bins), and tree planting.

It is part of the City Centre Movement Strategy, the £73m project to improve the roads and public areas of Liverpool, implemented by partners Liverpool City Council, Liverpool Vision and Merseytravel.

This scheme links together the Church Street corridor with the public realm project in Greater Williamson Square and the Cavern Quarter, and the proposed public realm to be delivered through the Paradise Street Liverpool One Project to create a world class environment for the combined retail quarter.

2020 Liverpool and BDP created the Church Street scheme with an overall design theme called 'The Ribbons of Life'. The 'ribbons' represent social, economic and cultural aspects of Liverpool and its people and are integrated into the design through the surfacing, street furniture and sculptural elements of the project.  Artist Danny Lane was appointed to work on this concept.

The Church Street - Parker Street scheme was completed at the end of 2007, with works on the Church Street/Lord Street/North John Street junction being completed in Spring 2008.
