Argyle Street Development
A £7m development by Space which saw a listed building refurbished and a new building go up to create apartments.
The site is bounded by Duke Street, Henry Street, York Street, Campbell Square and Lower Duke Street.
The first phase of the scheme - completed in Spring 2005 - saw the partial refurbishment of an existing building, its face retained and residential accommodation provided. The second phase was constructed throughout 2005 and involved further refurbishment of a listed building and a new steel-structures building to create 37 apartments.
This type of regeneration scheme resulted in the removal of derelict and unused properties, and replaced with new buildings and refurbishments which help draw in the businesses needed to help bring life back to the neglected parts of the city centre.
The development will help rejuvenate the area and help stop further degradation and provide a safer, more pleasant environment for locals and visitors.
