Since the turn of the millennium, Liverpool has been undergoing a major transformation in what has been described as one of the most exciting periods in the city's history. Some £6billion is being invested in the city's redevelopment, updating its infrastructure, regenerating communities and creating over 14,000 new jobs.
The scale of the regeneration work taking place is massive. Several major projects are under way or being planned in association with a range of public and private agencies and developers.
Major projects include:-
- Liverpool One (Europe's largest newest shopping centre, hotels, leisure and apartments - now nearing completion),
- Kings Waterfront (Echo Arena & BT Convention Centre, hotels completed, new apartments on site and planned),
- Cruise Liner Facility (now completed),
- City Centre Movement Strategy (CCMS - streets and highway projects, many of which are now completed),
- Pier Head (canal, Museum of Liverpool Life, Mann Island offices and apartments all on site),
- St Pauls Square and other office developments in the commercial district, and
- Lime Street Gateway (environmental work in and around Lime Street Station).
In the suburbs, we are seeing huge investment in employment-generating, speculative-led office, distribution and industrial developments.
Meanwhile, our older housing stock is being refurburbished or replaced as part of the Housing Market Renewal Initiative, and some of our major historic parks such as Sefton Park and Stanley Park are being improved and enhanced.
These projects, all leading to significant inward investment and economic growth, are being co-ordinated by a forum representing all the City's key public sector agencies.
However, with such a major programme of construction work, there will be some disruption to the community during this period which all partners are trying to keep to a minimum.

One of the main benefits of this scale of regeneration taking place in the city is the creation of new jobs.
