Liverpool University's Sydney Jones Library at Chatham Street has been reopened following a two year £17million refurbishment scheme which included the erection of a 3-storey building linking the University's former headquarters at Senate House to the library.
The library now houses more than 1.2 million books, specialist IT facilities, teaching rooms, and a cafe with outdoor terrace.
The sloping plaza infront of the buildings was also redesigned and repaved with a series of steps and ramps to improve access to the library.
The new facility was officially reopened by poets Roger McGough and Brian Patten, both honorary graduates of the University, on 6th November 2008.
