Three phases of Edge Lane Improvements completed

The finished scheme at Edge Lane CentralThree of the four phases of the Edge Lane Environmental Improvements scheme have been completed in time for Christmas 2007.  Edge Lane Central Part 1 and Part 2, and Edge Lane Drive have seen new road surfaces, relandscaped central reservations, street lights and pavements replaced with modern materials between the Rocket and the Botanic Road junction.

All traffic management, cones, barriers and temporary lights, will be removed during the 2007 Christmas period.

From the 7th January 2008, some traffic management will temporarily return for some finishing off works.  These will be restricted to OFF PEAK times only in both directions (9:30am - 4:30pm). The lengths of the areas coned off will be limited where possible to 200 metres.

It is anticipated that this work will be completed towards the end of January, but is weather dependant.

At the Rocket Junction we will again only be working with OFF PEAK closures which will be in place around the junction until end of January and by the Jaguar garage until approx mid February.

Ian Hassall, Chief Executive of Liverpool Land Development Company said on 20th December 2007:

"We are pleased to announce that three of the four phaases have been completed.  We are particularly celebrating the recent environmental improvements to the Rocket Junction flyover.  We would like to thanks motorists, residents and businesses for their patience whilst we have carried out this challenging scheme to improve access to the city centre from the of the M62 motorway.

"Phase 4, Edge Lane West, has been delayed due to much publicized reasons after our CPO was challenged and upheld.  There will be a second public inquiry to acquire the homes needed for the expanded road which will get underway on January 15th, 2008.  We are confident about getting the outcome we are seeking."

Assuming the second public inquiry successfully goes in the Council's favour, the final stage Edge Lane West will not commence until 2009.
