Scotland Road closure for new gantry installation

Scotland Road will close on the city bound carriageway just past the Kingsway Tunnel exit on the night of Tuesday, 23rd May from 8pm to 6am.

The closure is for the removal of the existing gantry and the installation of a new overhead road sign gantry and should take one night to erect. The gantry bases are already in place. The road will be reopened as soon as the operation is complete.

The new gantry signs will direct people to the Birkenhead Tunnel, Manchester and around Liverpool City Centre.

The traffic leaving the Kingsway (Wallasey) Tunnel will be diverted onto the northbound exit road to join Scotland Road northbound and they will then follow the same diversion as the city bound traffic.

There are two diversion routes. The first is onto Boundary Street, Vauxhall Road, Leeds Street and Byrom Street, and the second is Kirkdale Road, Great Homer Street, St Anne Street and Hunter Street. Both these diversion routes can carry Heavy Goods Vehicles and will be clearly signed.

If there are severe weather conditions, the work will take place the following Tuesday, 30th May, instead.
