New hotel opens with 80% occupancy over first weekend
With Capital of Culture in full swing, and the £148million Liverpool Echo Arena & BT Convention Centre recently opened on its doorstep, the new Jurys Inn Hotel has landed in the city to a heartily busy welcome.
Opening on Friday 18th April, the hotel's 310 three star rated bedrooms were rapidly filled. By the following Monday, Hotel Manager James Rush said:
"Our opening weekend has been tremendous. Occupancy had reached 80% within 48 hours of the doors being opened. Liverpool has given us a tremendous welcome, and we're really pleased to be here at last."
The Jurys Inn Hotel is the fourth hotel project to complete in the city centre since the start of the year. The long awaited £4.5million, 110 bedroomed Hard Days Night Hotel arrived in January, whilst the Premier Inn at the Albert Dock completed an extension giving it 56 extra bedrooms shortly afterwards.
In March, the International Inn in South Hunter Street completed a £1million investment to convert its basement to add another 32 bedrooms to its total.
These four projects have brought 508 new bedrooms to the hotel market so far this year, whilst another 308 bedrooms will be completed in other hotels in the city by the end of 2008, including:
-
132 bedrooms in the Staybridge Hotel, adjacent to Jurys Inn
-
86 bedrooms in the boutique "Layla Hotel" in the former Municipal Annexe, Dale Street; and
-
34 extra bedrooms at the Hope Street Hotel.
Meanwhile, other hotels are still undergoing major refurbishment schemes. Amongst them are:
-
a major £6million upgrade of the Adelphi Hotel, Lime Street, which is having new conference facilities installed, and additional security measures added; and
-
£1.6million refurbishment of the Thistle Atlantic Tower Hotel at Chapel Street.
