Lime Street resurfacing work

The proposed highways works on Lime StreetLime Street will be closed northbound from Tuesday, May 8 until Thursday, May 10 between 9pm and 6am for resurfacing and road marking, as work on the road nears completion.

Diversions will be in place during the closure.

The works are part of the City Centre Movement Strategy (CCMS) with the £2m Lime Street scheme changing the layout of the road and making room for improvements to the pavement area outside the main entrance and exit to Lime Street railway station.

The regeneration of this area will also improve connections between the train station and the city's retail quarter.

The contractor has liaised closely with the emergency services, Merseytravel and the bus operators and has consulted with St John's car park and shopping centre and taxi organisations.

It was recommended that the work should be carried out during the night in order to minimise disruption for businesses and visitors to the city.

Christine Wray, City Centre Projects Team manager, said:

"The City Centre Movement Strategy works on Lime Street are progressing on programme and budget and the resurfacing works means the end is now in sight for this particular project, with it due to be completed by the end of May.

"We have listened to the recommendations of the emergency services and Merseytravel with the bus operators to ensure that the work causes as little disruption as possible.

"We will continue to work closely with businesses, residents and public transport operators in the area and information for motorists appears on the Big Dig website, updated every week."

Motorists are reminded that performing a u-turn on Lime Street to access St John's car park is also illegal and extremely dangerous. They should follow signs and access St John's car park via Skelhorne Street.
