The first phase of the Grosvenor regeneration project to open, the Interchange replaces the former Paradise Street Bus Station, which closed when the last bus departed on Saturday 12th November.

The former Paradise Street Bus Station is being demolished by Grosvenor to make way for new leisure and retail developments.

The new Interchange will give up to ten million people every year direct access to jobs and leisure and shopping facilities in and around the giant development currently under construction in the heart of the city.

Cllr Mark Dowd, Chair of Merseytravel, said: "Paradise Street Interchange will be the key gateway for accessing the Paradise Project by public transport.  It is a vital part of the project.  Once the Paradise Project is completed this Interchange will be central to everything. It is a huge step forward for public transport in Liverpool."

Financed by Grosvenor and built by its construction partner Laing O'Rourke, the state-of-the-art Interchange is set apart from any other building by the two iconic 'waves' of the stainless steel and sustainable timber roof structures and use of cutting edge design.

It follows the "open streets" theme throughout the project, as well as the new 'rules', "think big" and "create more". It has been built to be fully accessible to all.

Neil Scales, Chief Executive and Director General of Merseytravel, has overseen work on the project. He said: "We agreed to move Paradise Street Bus Station early in the development so that we could help the City Council and Grosvenor fulfil their hopes and aspirations for this development, which is such an important one for the city.
