City Centre traffic changes in advance of Liverpool One opening

The proposed Debenhams store, as seen at the junction of Lord Street and North John StreetChanges to traffic flow in city centre roads to help access to the new Liverpool One development are set to be introduced.

From Sunday May 11 traffic will be allowed to travel along Lord Street  and left into North John Street. Buses which have been using Cook Street will resume their normal routes along Lord Street - North John Street - Victoria Street.  New bus shelters on Lord Street will be in operation.

On Thursday May 15 two way traffic on North John Street, between Victoria Street and Lord Street will be introduced. Two -way traffic will restart  on Lord Street. New bus stops outside the Debenhams Store will be in use from 25 May. From that date there will be no parking facilities in Lord Street.

Pay and display parking will be reintroduced on Cook Street and Harrington Street and there will be new taxi ranks on North John Street.

This work - which has been completed two weeks ahead of schedule - is the latest phase of the City Centre Movement Strategy, a £73m package of road improvements to provide a balanced and sustainable transport system, accessible to all and several schemes have already been successfully completed around the City Centre.

It has involved improvements to junctions, improvements to existing pedestrian crossings and a new crossing near to the junction of Victoria Street and North John Street.

The total cost of the scheme was £2.2m and funding was partly provided through the European Regional Development Fund and the Northwest Regional Development Agency.
